What is craftsmanship? As the old saying goes, “Jade can not be made into anything without being cut and polished”. Craftsman generally means artisan with excellent skills and their spirits like preciseness, concentration and professional dedication are called as “craftsmanship”. “Craftsmanship” was written in the Government Work Report for the first time in this two congresses, which resulting to heated discussion around the representatives and netizens. Prim minister Li Keqiang noted in his work report on 5th March that “we will also encourage enterprises to use flexible and custom-tailored production processes and foster a craftsmanship spirit of striving for the best, so that more types of products, products of a higher quality, and brand products will be made”.

Why the “craftsmanship” were repeatedly emphasized in the government reports?

First, seen from China’s gross domestic product (GDP), the economy only can meet domestic demands with low export value and its export objects most are developing countries. Backward production technologies and poor quality are the current and future developing key points.

Second, domestic sales mainly are low-mid market and production innovation needs higher pursuit to make more types of products, higher quality products and brand products.

Third, taking mining and coal enterprises as example, the small and medium enterprises closed down. What’s the reason? Is it caused by insufficient market demands or by the situation that enterprise production quality can not meet development requirement?

Fourth, craftsmanship is the essence of enterprise development and the same goes for a nation. None strong economic power will develop low and mid development route because if economy is prosperous, people will be strong and country will be powerful.

However, how to implement enterprise craftsmanship?

First of all, to adjust enterprise production and running model and to abandon old customs and receive new ideas. For example, milling machine manufactures should abandon the old equipments especially that with low capacity, high consumption and heavy pollution. Next, to make good-quality products and good production, decrease production share and improve production quality. Besides, to enhance enterprise management system with the quality supervision department working scrupulously to fulfill duties, scrupulous and constantly striving for perfection with circumspection and attention. Finally, the grinding technology design department should “be able to endure loneliness, resist temptation and overcome challenges”, and to build up technical team and develop enterprise brand.

And the development targets and direction is how to exploit and innovate new machines with high yield, safety and no pollution.
